Two New Members of the Swiss TPH Board of Governors

“We warmly welcome Barbara Wieland and Jacques Fellay, two nationally and internationally recognized experts, to the Swiss TPH Board of Governors,” said Jürg Utzinger, Director of Swiss TPH. “Their vast experience in immunity, infectious diseases, genomics, pandemic preparedness, virology and One Health will be of utmost value in further sharpening the institute’s strategy.”

“Additionally, we are deeply grateful that Eva Herzog will continue in her role as President of the Swiss TPH Board of Governors,” said Utzinger. “Her leadership has been instrumental in positioning Swiss TPH as a prime institute in global health in Switzerland and beyond.” Utzinger also thanked Cornelia Staehelin and Olivier Küttel for their commitment and valuable contributions to the Board of Governors over the past years.

The Board of Governors is the highest decision-making and supervisory body of Swiss TPH. Four members each are elected by the governments of Canton Basel-Stadt and Basel-Landschaft, while the President is elected by both governments.

Barbara Wieland is the Director of the federal Institute of Virology and Immunology (IVI). IVI is the national reference laboratory for diagnostics and research of highly contagious viral animal diseases and zoonoses. Wieland has been trained as a veterinarian and obtained a PhD in veterinary epidemiology from the University of Bern. She has over 25 years of experience in academia, international cooperation and development, research and veterinary services.

Jacques Fellay heads the Human Genomics of Infection and Immunity research laboratory at the École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) School of Life Sciences. He is also the founding director of the Precision Medicine unit at Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV) and the Chief Scientific Officer and co-founder of the Health2030 Genome Center in Geneva. He is a medical doctor and researcher with expertise in genomics, infectious diseases, and personalized health.
