GatesNutrition - Nutrition and Human Capital Development: An evidence review and modeling potential

The proposed supplement would build upon the current work and further refine approaches to estimate the effect of scaling-up nutrition interventions on human capital outcomes. First, we plan to extend the model from its current pregnancy intervention focus to child nutrition interventions that can both affect multiple domains of early child development and linear growth. Second, we hope to further strengthen our model by adding new data and analysis on the long-term labor market impact of early life interventions using long-term cohort studies in low and middle income settings. Third, while the academic publications from this project are important, we aim to make estimates of the returns to investment in nutrition more readily available to decision-makers. As a result, we plan to continue to build on relationships with Lives Saved Tool (LiST) and Optima Nutrition to engage on including human capital outcomes in existing nutrition tools.
