SMART Guidelines LTA - Supporting services related to SMART Guidelines
Project Abstract
The SMART Guidelines framework, developed by the World Health Organization (WHO), represents a transformative approach to implementing evidence-based health recommendations through digital technologies. SMART - Standards-based, Machine-readable, Adaptive, Requirements-based, and Testable - guidelines address the challenges of translating static, paper-based guidance into dynamic, adaptable tools that can be seamlessly integrated into digital health systems.
The approach ensures consistency in implementing WHO’s recommendations, reduces the complexity of adapting global standards to local contexts, and improves the overall quality and efficiency of healthcare delivery. By leveraging global standards, such as HL7 FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources), SMART Guidelines can accelerate progress for countries working to develop scalable, interoperable digital health solutions.
Swiss TPH supports this WHO led effort as a pre-approved partner under a long-term agreement (LTA), providing technical expertise to advance development and implementation of the SMART Guidelines portfolio across four key domains:
- Documentation: Swiss TPH contributes project management, business and technical analysis, clinical terminology expertise, knowledge engineering, and technical writing to ensure comprehensive, accurate, and user-friendly documentation.
- Design and Editing: The organization enhances communication and usability through professional copyediting, graphic design, document layout, user experience (UX) design, and video production, ensuring materials are clear, accessible, and visually engaging
- Operational Support: By facilitating change management, community engagement, instructional design (including eLearning), training delivery, and the development of operational materials, Swiss TPH supports WHO in effectively implementing SMART Guidelines and building capacity among stakeholders.
- Technical Development: Swiss TPH provides cutting-edge expertise in software development, mobile/web application design, quality assurance, data science, analytics, and systems architecture, ensuring robust and scalable digital solutions aligned with the SMART Guidelines framework.
Under the remit of this long-term agreement, Swiss TPH has provided services to support the development of the SMART Guidelines for child health (0-59 months) in humanitarian emergencies and piloting in Iraq and Cameroon.
