Assessment of health effects of exposure to radiofrequency electromagnetic fields: systematic reviews
Project Abstract
The Radiation Programme of the World Health Organization (WHO) is assessing potential health effects of exposure to radiofrequency electromagnetic fields (RF-EMF) in the general and working population. Based on an international expert survey on potential adverse health outcomes conducted in 2018, the WHO has identified ten major topics for which the WHO has commissioned systematic reviews to analyze and synthesize the available evidence. The Swiss TPH is leading two of these systematic reviews:
- The effects of radiofrequency electromagnetic fields exposure on tinnitus, migraine and non-specific symptoms in the general and working population: A systematic review and meta-analysis on human observational studies
- The effects of radiofrequency electromagnetic fields exposure on human self-reported symptoms: A systematic review of human experimental studies
Further, Swiss TPH is involved in a third review:
- The effect of exposure to radiofrequency fields on cancer risk in the general and working population: A systematic review of human observational studies
All systematic reviews and their respective protocols are published in a special issue of Environment International: https://www.sciencedirect.com/journal/environment-international/special-issue/109J1SL7CXT
