STEB - Social Transfers for Exclusive Breastfeeding: A Pilot Program in Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR)

Children in Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR) continue to receive sub-optimal nutrition because of low breastfeeding rates, undermining their developmental potential. While major public health campaigns have tried to increase breastfeeding rates, they have been largely unsuccessful. This project will pilot a social transfer program designed to increase breastfeeding rates in Vientiane, Lao PDR. Results of this pilot will ideally be used to develop interventions at larger scale, and foster independent academic research in human milk and lactation. This project is supported from the University of Basel’s research fund for excellent early career researchers.
