Profile
I currently work part-time at the Insectary where we breed five different types of mosquito species with a total of six different colonies, which are Anopheles gambiae (Tiassalé and Kisumu), Anopholes stephensi, Aedes aegypti, Aedes albopictus or most known as the Asian Tiger mosquito and Culex quinquefasciatus.
My job consists to follow and monitor the development of the colonies we own, since the egg phase, throughout the four larvae stages until the adult phase. Some of the mosquito cages are used for rearing and are fed with a blood meal. The other cages are used for research purposes and tests, such as insecticide resistance.
Besides that, I also work part-time as an animal caretaker at the animal facility at the Department of Medical Parasitology and Infection Biology, where I am responsible for the nursing and maintenance of rodent animals.
