Unit | Learning Innovation

The Learning Innovation Unit is dedicated to advancing learning landscapes through innovative and engaging approaches. The unit is uniquely positioned to integrate learning, training and capacity building with global and public health expertise, cross-fertilising experience in research, consultancy, education management and faculty development.

Functional areas

The unit operates across four functional domains:

  • Teaching Faculty Development: Supporting Swiss TPH faculty in the use of interactive teaching approaches and technologies.
  • Postgraduate Training: Designing and managing postgraduate training programmes, in particular the Institute’s MBA International Health Management, to equip professionals with leadership and strategic skills.
  • Consultancy & Implementation: Offering expert advisory services and engaging in implementation efforts in various global health capacity strengthening contexts.
  • Research & Evaluation: Conducting qualitative and quantitative research on learning and capacity strengthening, including on AI-based knowledge solutions.

Strategic topics

The unit works on four key thematic pillars:

  1. Innovative Learning Methods and Technologies: Developing and implementing innovative learning approaches, such as blended and hybrid learning solutions, gamification or storytelling to increase educational impact.
  2. Conversational AI for Knowledge Processes: Exploring the use of conversational  artificial intelligence to support global health solutions, for example in the domain of HIV coaching
  3. Leadership Development: Strengthening leadership competencies in global health through targeted training, such as the Swiss TPH Leadership Academy
  4. Biosafety and Biosecurity Training: Delivering specialised training programmes to enhance capacities in pandemic preparedness and outbreak management
