Our globalised world is international, diverse and culturally rich. This presents unique opportunities but also challenges. Whether you work in the healthcare sector, as a manager in a global company or in the public sector, dealing effectively with cultural and social diversity is fundamental and requires intercultural competence.

This two-day course on intercultural competence is designed for professionals who work with multicultural clients, in international organisations or in diverse teams. Practical exercises and the sharing of successful experiences are at the heart of the course. Through hands-on, participant-centred learning, you will explore the fundamentals of intercultural competence, increase your awareness of cultural issues, and develop your ability to communicate and collaborate creatively and effectively across cultural boundaries.

At a Glance

This short course is characterised by its practical orientation and variety of methods. It combines theoretical knowledge with options for intercultural action in practice and the exchange of experiences, challenges and best practices. The course is strongly oriented towards everyday work situations and the needs of the participants.

In a preparatory module available online in advance, you will independently learn the most important terms and theoretical aspects related to culture and intercultural competence. During the two days of the course, you will reflect on your personal experiences, apply what you have learned in practical exercises and develop options for action in your everyday working life.
 

This course builds intercultural skills that will enable you to operate successfully in a diverse professional environment. By the end of the course, you will be able to appreciate cultural challenges as enrichment and manage multicultural situations creatively and effectively. You will be able to distinguish between different dimensions of interaction and introduce cultural aspects into professional contexts in order to manage professional situations as a leader, manager or colleague in a way that is satisfactory for all concerned.
 

The course is aimed at professionals who wish to develop their action and communication skills in order to make effective and creative use of cultural and social diversity in their work:

  • Managers and department heads in national and international companies/organisations,
  • Specialists in the field of migration and integration,
  • Healthcare professionals working with patients and colleagues from other cultures,
  • Administrative professionals in Switzerland who provide services at local, cantonal or national level,
  • Researchers working in multicultural teams or abroad,
  • Members of religious communities who accompany multicultural congregations and parishes,
  • Members of the police and customs authorities
  • Professionals in the tourism sector,
  • People with a general interest in the subject.

The course is taught in German and requires fluency in German. Admission to the course requires a university degree or completed vocational training and two years of work experience.

Applications are considered in the order they are received. Once your application has been accepted, you will receive confirmation and an invoice for the course fees.

Course fee: CHF 980

The total course fee must be paid 4 weeks before the start of the course. This includes the registration fee of CHF 200, which is due at the time of registration in order to reserve a place. The course fee will not be refunded in the event of non-attendance.

Insurance is the responsibility of the participants. If there are not enough participants, the course can be cancelled up to 4 weeks before the start of the course. Swiss TPH cannot be held responsible for any costs incurred, such as travel or accommodation costs.
