Climate and Environment

Swiss TPH conducts transdisciplinary and action-oriented research at the interface of climate, environment and public health.

As climate change intensifies, extreme weather events, pollution and ecosystem disruptions are increasingly affecting human health and well-being worldwide. Rising temperatures, environmental degradation and biodiversity loss threaten human, plant and animal health, exacerbate social and economic inequalities, drive climate-induced migration and reverse global health progress.

Our Focus Areas

To address these pressing challenges, Swiss TPH is advancing research and implementing integrated solutions to mitigate the effects of climate change. We focus on:

  • Understanding climate-health links: We study how environmental factors and climate change affect health, using interdisciplinary approaches such as One Health, ecohealth and planetary health.
  • Developing innovative solutions: We develop tools to measure climate-related risks and assess their impact on health systems – helping communities to adapt and prepare.
  • Strengthening capacity and resilience: Through training and education programmes, we strengthen expertise on climate, health and the environment, both at the individual and institutional levels.
  • Driving policy and community action: We work with local and global partners to co-create practical solutions and support science-based policies for climate adaptation and health protection.

Collaboration for Sustainable Solutions

Swiss TPH helps bridge the gap between research and policy. By partnering with global organisations and governments, we support effective public health strategies that respond to environmental challenges and improve resilience – especially in resource-poor settings.

Our Commitment

Swiss TPH is committed to building a healthier, more sustainable future – for people and the planet. Through collaboration and action-oriented research, we aim to translate scientific knowledge into meaningful change.
