Tackling Infectious Diseases with Research that Makes a Difference
Swiss TPH is committed to fighting infectious diseases through research, evaluation, and tailored strategies that have real impact. Working with global partners, we develop solutions that reach the people who need them most.
Infectious diseases remain a leading cause of illness and death worldwide. The COVID-19 pandemic and the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) highlight the continued need for strong, coordinated responses. For more than 80 years, Swiss TPH has focused on diseases that disproportionately affect people in low- and middle-income countries. As climate change, urbanisation and migration reshape global health dynamics, addressing diseases such as tuberculosis, dengue, malaria, and other vector-borne or drug-resistant infections has become increasingly urgent. Neglected tropical diseases continue to burden the most vulnerable populations and require sustained research and action.
Our Approach: From Research to Real-World Impact
Swiss TPH connects research with real-world application to achieve measurable impact in public health.
- Basic and translational research: We advance knowledge of disease biology, immune responses, transmission routes and disease spread.
- Diagnostics and surveillance: We develop and validate innovative tools to detect and monitor infectious diseases.
- Product development and implementation research: We ensure that innovative solutions are adapted and applied in real-world settings.
- Data-driven decision-making: We use mathematical modelling and economic evaluation to improve interventions.
- Shaping policy and practice: We provide science-based guidance for sustainable health strategies.
Looking Ahead
We remain focused on research – with an increasing emphasis on emerging and re-emerging diseases and drug-resistant pathogens. Our long-term vision includes:
➤ Deepen our understanding of disease dynamics and transmission.
➤ Develop and validate new interventions and control strategies.
➤ Inform and shape evidence-based policy for sustainable public health impact
