Support for the launch of calls for project proposals against neglected tropical diseases in Benin and Togo

The raison d’être of Anesvad is to improve the health of the most neglected people and communities. A major ongoing quest is the fight against neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) with a focus on skin NTDs through health system strengthening (HSS) from a human rights perspective. This is outlined in Anesvad’s Identity Document, and is also in line with at least four of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), namely Goals “1 – End poverty”, “3 – Good health”, “6 – Clean water” and “10 – No inequality”. It further contributes to the World Health Organization (WHO) Roadmap for NTDs 2021 – 2030, which sets targets and milestones for NTD prevention, control, elimination and – eventual – eradication. In the frame of developing the strategic plan 2023 – 2026, Anesvad has decided to support the development of civil society organizations into recognized actors in the fight against neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) through competitive grants. The first two calls for proposals were launched in Ghana in 2022 and Côte d’Ivoire in 2023; another call is now focusing on Benin and Togo together, with launch in 2024.

The mandate is to support Anesvad in proposal and project management for neglected tropical diseases projects implemented by civil society organizations in Benin and Togo. Specifically, the following services are expected:

·     Evaluation of the technical capacity of applicant organizations, and plan for capacity strengthening
